The treasures of the lodge

Churches and Oratories in the historic center of Palermo

The "Tesori della Loggia" (Treasures of the Loggia) are five architectural gems located very close to each other in the city's historic center, between Via Roma and the sea. They are the Oratory of the Holy Rosary in San Domenico, the Oratory of the Holy Rosary in Santa Cita, the Church of Santa Cita, the Church of San Giorgio dei Genovesi, and the Church of Santa Maria in Valverde.
These sites house extraordinary works of art by Anton Van Dyck, Luca Giordano, Matthias Stom, Pietro Novelli, Filippo Paladini, and Giacomo Serpotta.
By the end of the 13th century, Genoese, Pisans, Venetians, and Amalfitans had already established themselves in the Loggia quarter, building warehouses, chapels, and merchant loggias. The name "Loggia Quarter" was likely due to the presence of a loggia belonging to the Genoese nation, whose merchant community had deep roots in the city.
Even today, the numerous squares of this ancient quarter bear witness to the intense social life of the past, and its churches and oratories have once again become places for both religious and cultural gatherings.
